The boys and girls cross country teams ran in conditions more fit for an adventure race yesterday at Highland High School. After Friday nights torrential downpour, the surrounding campus and course were under about two-three inches of water. The races were pushed back to allow some type of relief for the runners. Many athletes were slipping and sliding as mud was caked all over their uniforms as well as their legs and faces.
“We told the athletes to embrace the conditions and have fun,” Coach Ben Kosal said. “Despite the conditions, we had some athletes breakthrough for some PR’s today.”
The boys and girls each placed 3rd as a team in their respective divisions out of 23 competing teams.
They next compete at the GSSC Championships on their home course next Saturday October 5th.
