St. Patrick’s Day weekend brought a little luck of the Irish for the Wheeler track team at their Portage Field Event Qualifier. No running events were held and only field events were contested including long jump, high jump, pole vault, and shot put.

The Bearcats started off with a 5th place in high jump led by Freshman Katelyn Hyde with a new personal best jump of 4 feet 8 inches. Senior Lexi Passauer cleared 4 feet and placed 12th. Hyde was not done yet as she led a trio of girl long jumpers with a leap of 14 feet. Sophomore Kaitlin Bunda placed 7th with a jump of 13 feet 11 inches. Lexi Passaeur placed 11th with a jump of 13 feet 6 inches.

In the throws, Senior Brenna Keen threw a personal best 26 feet 11 inches in placing 22nd. Not to be outdone, Junior Ariah Stennis threw her own personal best of 25 feet 4 inches, followed closely by Senior Alicyn Kehoe at 24 feet. Junior Maddie Dominion threw 21 feet 9 inches respectively.

The Bearcat girls await their fate next week to see who qualifies for the Indoor State Finals in Bloomington.

The first outdoor meet is April 2nd where the teams host Griffith, Calumet, and Hanover Central.
