The Boys Track team fell short of defending their 2018 GSSC Title won last year at Wheeler. Despite having multiple individual conference champions, the Bearcats were a bit short to conference rivals Hanover and Calumet. “The guys competed as hard as they could and they’re resilient enough where we will come back from this,” Coach Luis Guillen said. “I’m proud of the efforts that I saw and just came up a bit short.”
Freshmen Jake Passauer made the finals in the long jump and freshman Dietrich Podlesak made the finals in two events, the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Both had Personal Bests.
Junior Stevie Franczek placed 3rd in the 800 and was conference runner up in the 1600 meter run. Senior Dane Simatovich was conference runner up in the discus with a personal best throw.
The Bearcats had individual conference champions in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs in Hudson Hall. The shot put was won by Jesse Smith. The long jump was won by Bryce Catherman and he also was conference runner up in the high jump. The high jump was won by his teammate Thad Martz. The boys 4×800 meter relay team of Liam Hostetler, Evan Nowak, Jacob Demuth, and Stevie Franczek were also crowned conference champions.
The boys next meet is next Thursday at Portage High School for the IHSAA Sectional Meet starting at 4:30 pm
