You wouldn’t recognize that the Wheeler boys emerged from a 4:30 AM slumber, or the fact that they drove two hours to arrive to Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne University to compete in their first meet of the year. The boys came out and set the tone against some stiff competition in placing a solid third as a team with more than twenty school competing.
The boys had a host of athletes contribute to the top three showing. Seniors Hudson Hall and Stevie Franczek placed 1st and 2nd in the 3200 m run. Seniors Thad Martz placed 1st and 2nd in the high jump with Catherman placing 2nd in the long jump as well.
Junior Jesse Smith placed 11th in the shot put just missing a top ten finish by one inch.
Jordan Derolf and Hunter Unate placed 20th and 23rd in the 60 m hurdles.
Dietrich Podlesak (20), Caden Brann (30), and Tomas Niaves (48) ran well in the 60 m dash.
Boys 4×8 and 4×4 placed 15th and the Boys 4×2 and DMR placed 5th.
The boys will compete next weekend at Portage HS.
