The Lady Bearcats continued their undefeated streak to begin the young season, posting a score of 48 points in winning the Rich Jay Gavit Invitational. This is the 2nd year in a row the girls team has won this prestigious meet named in memory of the longtime Gavit cross country coach Richard Jay.
The girls team placed their top 5 scorers in the top 20 with Sophomore Emma Hellwege winning the individual title (19:35). Her teammate, Junior Hailey Orosz followed closely behind in placing 2nd (19:50). The 1-2 combination seems like a nice fit for these two as they flip-flopped places from last week’s Bearcat Invitational.
The newly dubbed “Emily Squared ” came next as Junior Emily Gaylord placed 12th (21:35), followed by Emily Enright in 16th in 22:08. Junior Dottie Heuring rounded up the scoring placing 17th in 22:22.
“I was really happy with how the girls battled today,” Coach Ben Kosal said. “Emma had a nice race; Emily Enright and Lily definitely stepped it up time wise, it was a good day.”
The girls will be back in action next Saturday at the Harrison Invitational in West Lafayette.
